Objective :
Our ambition is to develop a strategy for improving the competitiveness of the “functional food/ingredients” sector in Wallonia via Innovation, diversification and intervention mechanisms”.
The main areas of work are
- Consolidate expertise to meet industrial needs and constraints
- Invest in new and innovative equipment for creating a technological and analytical platforms of excellence
- Support the development of high-performance, environmentally-friendly industrial processes (transformation – extraction – formulation – texturing)
- Accelerate and de-risk functional food innovation and decision-making processes (Fail early / Fail cheap)
- Strengthen product characterization to position them in their value chain and meet regulatory requirements (food safety – health claims).
- Intensify collaborative research between different stakeholders
- Mobilise, integrate and structure expertise to enhance the international stature of Wallonia
- Train young researchers in the sector
- Improve the circularity and sustainability of agri-food businesses by valorising co-products and promoting local supply chains.
